In the Engishiki Jinmyocho (Register of Shrine Names), it was listed among the eighty-five shrines for praying for rain and was maintained by the Kono (Kobe) officials, who gave their name to the city of Kobe. During the Meiji period, it was elevated to the rank of Kanpei Chusha (Medium State Shrine), and today it remains one of the representative shrines of Kobe.
