Founded during the Eiroku era, it was relocated to its current site by Nagaya Keiko, the lord of Aiba Castle, and enshrined as the guardian deity of the castle. The shrine buildings burned down in 1688 but were rebuilt in 1691. In 1868, it was renamed Nagaya Gozu Tenno, but the name was reverted to Nagaya Shrine the following year.
