創建は反正天皇の時代と伝えられ、当初は河内国の丹比柴籬宮のあたりに鎮座していた。天慶6年に平野郷へ遷座し、慶長2年に豊臣秀吉の命令で現在地へ遷座した。明治時代に府社に列せられ、1945年の大阪大空襲で焼失したが、1974年に再建された。
