Founded in 1310 CE (Kenkyō 3) by Daizen Ajari Nichihan. In 1659 CE (Manji 2), Yuishin-in Nichiryō petitioned Matsudaira Tadayuki, the lord of Fukuchiyama, to relocate the temple to its current site. By 1678 CE (Enpō 6), the current temple complex had been restored. During the Russo-Japanese War, it served as one of the detention camps for Russian prisoners of war.
