This shrine enshrines Kikuri-hime Ookami, a deity worshipped for matchmaking and harmonious relationships. As the chief guardian shrine of Niigata, it attracts large numbers of visitors during the summer annual festival and Hatsumode (the first shrine visit of the New Year).
