History
The temple was founded by Asakura Shuko in 1615 CE (Genna 1), originally established as Nishinji. In 1696 CE (Genroku 9), the fourth-generation head, Asakura Shutei, constructed the main hall, and the temple was renamed Nishigouji. It was destroyed by fire in 1818 CE (Bunsei 1) but was rebuilt in 1832 CE (Tenpo 3) during the tenure of Asakura Hideen.
