In 1868 (Meiji 1), Hashimoto Takanosuke submitted a proposal to construct the shrine. In 1873 (Meiji 6), he petitioned for the establishment of a shrine dedicated to Nitta Yoshitsugu. In 1875 (Meiji 8), the main hall (honden) was built on the site of the Honmaru of Kinzan Castle, the shrine was granted the title of Nitta Shrine, and a consecration ceremony was held. In 1876 (Meiji 9), it was designated as a prefectural shrine (Kensha), and in 1879 (Meiji 12), it became a village shrine (Gosha).
