History
This Tendai sect temple was founded in 849 CE by the Great Master Jichaku Ennin. It was formerly called 'Ushijima Taishi-do' or 'Nakano-go Taishi-do' because a statue of Prince Shotoku was enshrined within the precincts. The temple suffered damage in the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and subsequently relocated to its current site.
