Located in Miyahara, Oguni Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, this shrine is known for anecdotes regarding fortune-telling lottery tickets (fuku-kujira) that bring good luck and blessings, as well as for its ritual performances designated as Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties.

History

The shrine was established in ancient times to enshrine the brother deities Takahashi Ōkami and Himiya Ōkami, who received orders from Take-Iwanaga-no-Mikoto to develop the Oguni district. It is said that the shrine acquired the name 'Ryō Jinja' (Two Deities Shrine) when Takahashi Ōkami was enshrined during the reign of Emperor Nintoku and Himiya Ōkami was enshrined during the reign of Emperor Ōjin. The main hall (honden) was rebuilt in 1689 (Genroku 2) and again in 1997 after damage caused by a typhoon.
