Founded during the Genwa era by the lay practitioner Yamamura Shusei, and established in its current location with Kenchū Gensei as the founding abbot. It was originally located in front of Ena Shrine and served as its betto (administrative temple), but was destroyed in the turmoil of the 1574 CE (Tenshō 2) period before being rebuilt. The temple complex was completed under the leadership of Yōgai Shūhaku, and it is now a branch temple of Mōganji.
