Oizumi-ji Oku-in (Oizumi-ji Inner Temple)
高島市新旭町饗庭
A branch temple of Enryaku-ji, a Tendai sect monastery located in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. It is known as the birthplace of the Great Master Jigen Daisai Ryogen.
History
Founded in March 965 CE (Koho 2) by the Great Master Jigen Daisai Ryogen. The temple was brought to the brink of extinction during the Genkio Disturbances, but the main hall and storehouse were rebuilt in 1694 CE (Genroku 7) by Sakai Tadayuki. It was named Oizumi-ji based on the tradition that the 'Daisai San-yu-i (Great Master's Birth Bathing Pool)' is the site of the Great Master's birth.
