It originally held the tradition of being the head of the Inari shrines of the Tōkoku Sansankoku (the thirty-three provinces of the eastern lands). Since the Kansei Reforms, it has been recognized as the leader of the Inari shrines of the Kan-hasshū (the eight provinces around Edo).
