History
It was formerly called Shinmei-gu and is believed to have been established as a Shinmei-sha at a location where agents of Ise Jingu (priests serving Ise Grand Shrine) were stationed. Although the area was divided into Asahara Village and Nishi-Higashi due to flooding of the Kamitsu River, a temple from Asahara still exists in the Usui district, and a Shinmei-gu is also enshrined in Asahara. In 1977 (Showa 52), the approach path was improved, and in 1982 (Showa 57), new facilities including the outer stone wall, hand-washing pavilion, and dug well were constructed.
