History
It is said that a shrine was established on the mountain in ancient times, and the main hall was moved to its current location in 1111 CE (Ten'ei 2). The shrine was destroyed by fire during a military conflict in 1580 CE (Tensho 8) but was rebuilt in 1583 CE (Tensho 11) by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In 1603 CE (Keichō 8), Ikeda Terumasa enshrined eight additional deities, and the shrine came to be known as Kyū-hachi Hachiman-gu (Nine-Deity Hachiman Shrine).
