The shrine buildings were destroyed by fire in 1252 CE (Kencho 4) during the reign of Emperor Go-Fukakusa, and the deity was subsequently transferred to the current Rikyu Hachimangu Shrine. It received deep reverence from Maeda Toshiie and successive domain lords, maintaining its status as the foremost of the five shrines of the Kaga Domain.
