In the medieval period, the local lord Kondo Masamitsu enshrined the Hachiman deity, worshipping him alongside Oomizu Daimyojin and Mishima Ryujin, leading to the shrine being known as 'Ninomiya Sansha' (Second Shrine, Three Deities). It is said to have been burned down by the Nagahama army during the Sengoku period. The current buildings were reconstructed in the Meiji era based on structures rebuilt during the Eiroku period.
