History
In the mid-Muromachi period, Ota Dokan enshrined a deity from Ichiguchi Inari Shrine to pray for the cure of his daughter's smallpox and built it within Edo Castle. After Tokugawa Ieyasu entered Edo, the shrine was relocated to the banks of the Kanda River. It received its current name in 1912 (Meiji 5). The shrine buildings were destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake but were rebuilt in 1928 (Shōwa 3) and relocated to its current location in 1931 (Shōwa 6).
