The founding date is unknown, but it is presumed to have existed already in the early Edo period. In 1649, it was granted shoryo (shrine lands), and during the Genroku era, it served as the common guardian shrine for several villages that had split off from Otani-guchi Village. During the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji period, the monks of Anraku-ji Temple, which had served as the betto-ji (administrative temple), returned to lay life and became shrine priests.
