The founding date is unknown, but it is presumed to have existed already in the early Edo period. In 1649, it was granted temple lands (sharyo). During the Genroku era, it served as the common guardian shrine for villages that had split off from Otaniguchi Village. Following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji period, the monks of Anraku-ji Temple, which had served as the attendant temple (bettouji), returned to lay status and became shrine priests.
