History
The main shrine was originally located in Nagabukuro, Fukuoka Village, and was divided into the Upper and Lower Shimei Shrines. Due to the merit of capturing Shirosagi Castle, Date Masamune granted land from Katakurakojuro, and it was revered as the guardian of Shirosagi Castle and the chief guardian of the domain. It was re-established in 1877 (Meiji 10), and between 1909 (Meiji 42) and 1914 (Taisho 3), five shrines were merged into it.
