During the Eiroku era, Nakanō Uezukimi converted the Shingon sect temple Jizōji to the Nichiren sect and invited Nichiren Daishōnin's disciple Nichishō to serve as the founding priest, thereby reestablishing the temple. In the third year of Keian (1650 CE), the temple received a land grant seal from Tokugawa Iemitsu and was granted permission to build a red gate. The main hall underwent major renovations in 1967 CE (Shōwa 42), and the red gate was rebuilt in 1979 CE (Shōwa 54).
