The temple was re-established in 1596 CE (Keichō 1) by the monk Shōun of Shōrinzan Shintokuji. It was originally located at Daini-zuka, 300 meters south of its current site, and was known as Sandaiji before being renamed Keirin-an. In 1726 CE (Kyōhō 11), it was renamed Rinkoji. It also serves as the memorial temple for the practitioner Kakumei, who is credited with opening the sacred site of Mt. Ontake in the Kiso region.
