History
Established in 1640 CE (Kangyo 17) by Suwa Tada Tsune, the second lord of the Takashima domain, to protect the hot spring source at Kamisuwa Onsen. Since then, it has served as the family temple of the Suwa clan of the Takashima domain, and the mausoleums of successive domain lords are located here. During a fire in 1870 CE (Meiji 3), the medicine gate (yakumon), the mountain gate (sanmon), and the Noh stage were relocated from Takashima Castle to this temple.
