A Rinzai-shu Myoshin-ji school temple located in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. It is counted as one of the Kofu Goyama (Five Mountains) and is also the 57th station of the Kai Hyakuhachi Reijo (108 Sacred Sites of Kai).
History
The temple was founded during the Shogō era of the Nanboku-chō period by the founding monk Gyoukai Honjō, with Takeda Nobumori as the founding patron. It was originally established in the present-day Yachiyo-machi, Fukuyama City. During the Sengoku period, Takeda Shingen designated it as one of the Kofu Goyama. It later moved to Nishi-aozawa in the Kofu castle town, and finally relocated to its current site during the Bunroku era. The temple complex was destroyed by fire twice, in the 4th year of the Kaiei era and during the Kofu air raids of 1945 (Shōwa 20), but was rebuilt each time.
