History
In 807 CE (Daito 2), during a visit by Kukai, the local governor Ochi Sukune Motosugu enshrined Mahavairocana, the Great Compassionate Buddha, to save the people and named the temple Riseiin Uki-ji. The current mountain gate and main hall were rebuilt in the early Edo period by Kato Yoshiaki, the lord of the Matsuyama Domain.
