Founded in 1062 CE (Kōhei 5) by Yokoyama Tsunekane. On his way back from the Former Nine Years' War, Tsunekane enshrined a statue of Dainichi Nyorai brought from Yudono Mountain and established the temple. During the Heisei era, the temple grounds were landscaped under the guidance of the gardener Hoshi Susumu.
