History
It is said that the temple was founded when the 9th abbot of Daiji-ji, Shunkai, liberated the local snakes, established Hebicuchi Shrine, and transferred the Tenjin Shrine from Onaheira to the current location to serve as the guardian shrine of the area. Hebicuchi Shrine was later merged into Higashiiri Nishi Shrine, and its sacred object is now enshrined in the Yakushi Hall of this temple.
