It was later revived as a Rinzai Zen temple by Ashikaga Takauji of the Muromachi Shogunate, who invited the Zen master Daichetsu to lead the temple and named it Ryugenzan Koan Gokoku Zenji (Ryugenzan Koan National Protection Zen Temple). It remained a Rinzai Zen temple until the early Edo period, but is now a Soto Zen temple.
