A Tendaishu sect temple located in Nagoya City, enshrining the Kannon of the Horse Head (Bato Kannon) as its principal deity. As one of the Four Kannon of Owari, it serves to protect Nagoya Castle. The temple is said to have been founded during the Enryaku era when Saicho received a message from a dragon deity. At the moment a dragon ascended from a pond, the Kannon of the Horse Head appeared, and it was enshrined as the principal deity. Additionally, because Kukai buried three of the eight swords from Atsuta, the site has long been regarded as the inner sanctuary of Atsuta. Historically, the temple was also used as a military facility, and it is known that both Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi established their camps here during their respective eras.
