History

Until the Meiji Restoration, it was known as Sai-ichi-i Sagiya Daimyojin of Itagaki Village, Manriki-kei, Yamanashi District, Kai Province. It is one of the Five Shrines of Fuchuu, having been enshrined since ancient times as the Ujigami for Itagaki Village and one other village plus five districts. Ancient records state that during the Bunroku period, the Five Shrines and Five Crafts ritual was performed at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Kofu Castle. In the fifth year of the Shoutoku era (1715 CE), it received the rank of Sai-ichi-i (First Rank). In the early Meiji period, it was classified as a Mura-ya (Village Shrine).
