Sakuramoto-bo
吉野町吉野山1269
A special head temple of the Kongozan Shugyo Honshu sect, it is also one of the five Gochiin (Guardian Monasteries) of Daien-ji. With many cultural properties preserved, it is known as the hall of Yamabushi (mountain ascetic) culture.
History
According to tradition, the temple was established in 673 CE (Tenmu 2) at the site where a cherry tree appeared in a dream to Emperor Tenmu. After suffering a major blow due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism and the Haibutsu Kishaku (destruction of Buddhist images) movement in the early Meiji period, it was relocated to its current site and renamed Sakuramoto-bo. It currently operates as a Shukubo (temple lodging).

What visitors say
The scenery of the entire mountain dyed in cherry blossoms is breathtaking, especially the beauty of the spring blossoms. The grounds feature many halls, shrines, and temple lodgings, along with rich sights such as cultural properties, Jizo statues, and iron geta (wooden sandals). Located up a flight of stairs from the Chusemmon Park parking lot, it also offers the opportunity to receive a Goshuin (a shrine's calligraphic seal stamp) from Daien-ji and to visit the temple.
