Founded in 1603 CE (Keichō 8) by inviting the priest Aō Hōin. Its predecessor was Tenjō-an, located in the Ueno district of Aima District, and the Koshin Hall was later moved to its current location. In 1949, it was elevated to the status of a quasi-independent head temple of the Daigo branch.
