Founded in 1199 CE (Shoji 1) when Kariyuka Doshin established a thatched hut on this site under the guidance of the Shinkoji Nyorai. In 1376 CE (Eiwa 2), the monk Gakuen Shonin rebuilt the main hall and restored the temple. Since then, it has endured numerous periods of public display and donations, and served as a lodging facility for the restoration of the Shinkoji main hall, continuing to the present day.
