History
Founded in 1616 CE (Genna 2) by the monk Sōgan Shōnin. The main image of Fudō Myō-ō (the Wisdom King of Immovable Enlightenment) was originally created to cure a serious illness of the Emperor, but was later lost. It was subsequently recovered from a sandbar in the Tone River and enshrined here. The current main hall (Fudō-dō, or Fudō Hall) was built in 1843 CE (Tenpō 14).
