A Sōtō school Buddhist temple located in Ōmachi City, Nagano Prefecture, with the mountain name Seiryūzan (Blue Dragon Mountain). It was established on the site of a medieval castle residence of the Nika clan.
History
After the extinction of the Nika clan in 1582 CE (Tenshō 10), former retainers and townspeople relocated the memorial temple Chōshōji to the site of the residence to mourn their ancestors. The temple was founded around 1584 CE (Tenshō 12). The temple complex was destroyed by fire in 1616 CE (Genna 2) but was rebuilt in 1641 CE (Kan'ei 18). It was closed in 1871 CE (Meiji 4) and later revived in 1882 CE (Meiji 15) by Zen master Kuga Kankai of Eiheiji.
