History
Founded in 737 CE (Tenpyo 9) by Taisho. The temple's origin lies in the carving and enshrinement of the Eleven-Faced Kannon and the Two Kings (Ni-ozu) for the merit-making rites of the local figures Yuriwake no Oomiyabi and Midorimaru. In 1608, the Kannon Hall and the Nio Gate were rebuilt and protected by Mizoguchi Hidesuke, the first lord of Niita Domain.
