Seiten-ji (Kuwana Seiten)

桑名市東方1415

4.0(2)

Commonly known as "Kuwana no Seiten-san," this temple is counted as one of the Three Great Kannon Temples in Japan. The Kuwana Seiten Grand Festival is held every April.

History

It is said to have been founded by Prince Shōtoku and was revived in the mid-Kamakura period by Ukita-bu Jitsujō and Ninshō. It received the character "dai" (great) from Ashikaga Takauji and was renamed Dai Fukuda-ji. In 1662, with the support of Matsudaira Sadayoshi, it was rebuilt at its current location.
