Sekihouyama Kinzenji
敦賀市金ケ崎町1−4
A temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, enshrining the Eleven-Faced Kannon as its principal image, known as the Hakumake Kannon (Kannon of the Skirt Hanging) for its association with matchmaking.
History
Founded in 736 CE by Taisho by imperial edict of Emperor Shomu. Taisho established the temple with the Eleven-Faced Kannon as the principal image and buried the Golden Light Sutra, bestowed by the emperor, in a golden casket within the mountain. The temple was destroyed by fire during the Sengoku period, rebuilt in 1662, and the current main hall and storage building were reconstructed in 1989.
