Founded in 1753 by Hirose Shintaro, the village headman of Seki-mura in Mino Province. In 1798, Tōjun, the chief priest of the main Kongoji shrine, conducted the opening ceremony for Shinshu Kongoji at Soshu-ji. Due to this connection, a statue of Kongoji Nyorai received from Prince Kotochi was enshrined, and a main hall and mandala hall modeled after Kongoji were constructed.
