In 1595 CE (Bunroku 4), Saijo Yoshimitsu relocated the temple to its current location in Yamagata City to offer prayers for his daughter, Komahime. In 1598 CE (Keicho 3), the temple moved to its present site, where a grand complex of buildings was constructed.
