Originally enshrined as Shichisomyo Shrine within the precincts of Muryo-ji Temple, the founding date is unknown because old records were lost in a fire in 1793. In 1868, following the Separation of Shinto and Buddhism decree, it became independent from Muryo-ji Temple and was relocated the next year to the site of Ippon-sugi Shinto Shrine.
