In 1160 CE (Eiryaku 1), Emperor Go-Hiraoka invited the Seven Yamato Shrines from Hiyoshi Taisha (Hiyoshi Grand Shrine) and founded the shrine as Shin-Hiyoshi Shrine. From the Muromachi period onward, it fell into disrepair due to wars, but was rebuilt in 1640 CE (Kan'ei 17) on the northeast side of its current location. In 1959 CE (Shōwa 34), Emperor Go-Hiraoka was added to the enshrined deities, and the shrine was renamed Shin-Hiyoshi Jingu (Shin-Hiyoshi Grand Shrine).
