During the Edo period, it was recorded as the "Gosha Asama-gu (Five-Shrine Asama Grand Shrine)," where the deities of Asama, Shinto, Hachiman, Tenjin, and Aitei Daimyojin were enshrined together. It prospered during the Meiji era as a departure point for Mount Fuji climbs.
