During the reign of Emperor Daigo, a resident of Kita-no-Sho in the Uchi-miya Ashiha Mynchi requested permission to invite the kami of Ise Kotohokami. In 924 CE (Encho 2), the divine spirit was enshrined at Ashiha Shrine and soon after moved to the current location. In 1192 CE (Kenkyu 3), Minamoto no Yoritomo granted the position of Ryoke-shoku (estate manager), and the Edo Shogunate donated a shuin-ryo (sealed estate) of 100 koku. In 1871 CE (Meiji 4), it was classified as a Kensha (prefectural shrine).
