History
According to tradition, it was one of the branch shrines (ronsha) of Kawashima Shrine in Haru District, Owari Province, and served as the tutelary deity (ubusun) for ten villages in Kawanuma District. It was revered by the Tsubouchi clan due to its location in the back-ki-mon (unlucky direction) of Matsukura Castle. In 1873, it became a district shrine (goshu) in Hagi District. Between 1928 and 1937, the main hall (honden), drum bridge, and other facilities were rebuilt and improved.
