During the reign of Emperor Daigo, a resident of Kita-no-Sho in the Ashiha-Mikata inner domain petitioned for the invitation of the deity from Ise Jingū and received imperial permission. In 924 CE (Encho 2), the divine spirit was initially enshrined at Ashiha Shrine, and shortly thereafter, a shrine building was constructed at the current site for the relocation of the deity. In 1192 CE (Kenkyu 3), Minamoto no Yoritomo granted the position of Ryoke-shoku (estate manager), and later the Edo Shogunate donated a shuin-ryo (sealed estate) of one hundred koku. In 1871 CE (Meiji 4), the shrine was classified as a Kenja (Prefectural Shrine).
