History
During the reign of Emperor Daigo, a resident of Kita-no-Sho in the Ashiha Mikkai of Naiku requested permission to invite the kami of Ise Jingū. This request was granted by imperial decree, and in 924 CE (Enchō 2), the divine spirit was initially enshrined at Ashiha Shrine. Shortly thereafter, a shrine building was constructed at the current site, and the kami were moved there. In 1192 CE (Kenkyū 3), Minamoto no Yoritomo appointed the shrine's head priest as the regional governor. Later, the Edo Shogunate donated land revenue seals (shuin-ryō) to the shrine. In 1871 CE (Meiji 4), it was classified as a Prefectural Shrine.
