History
It is said to have been established in 594 CE (Suiko 2) with Monobe Shinpu as the patron. A sculpted head dating back to the Nara period has been transmitted to the temple, and the temple ruins at Shinpuji Higatani are considered the oldest ancient temple ruins in Mikawa Province. The entire mountain was destroyed by fire in 1151 CE (Ninpei 1), but the temple was restored in 1494 CE (Meiyo 3).
