Founded in the Bunki era (1469–1487 CE) by Gansho. Originally located in Kanazashi, Musashi Province, it was destroyed by fire in the Meireki Great Fire and subsequently became a branch of Tsukiji Honganji. After being destroyed again in the Great Kanto Earthquake, it separated from Tsukiji Honganji in 1928 and relocated to its current site.
