History
In 1595 CE (Bunroku 4), Toyotomi Hideyoshi donated the temple grounds, and Jōnyo founded Otani Hongan-ji. In 1600 CE (Keichō 3), the temple relocated to its current site to accommodate the expansion of the Nankin district. Subsequently, the Namba Mido was constructed on the site of Otani Hongan-ji, which had been donated to Kyoto by Tokugawa Ieyasu. In 1714 CE (Shōtoku 4), the main hall was expanded into a grand structure with a double roof. It was completely destroyed by fire during the Great Osaka Air Raid of 1945 and was rebuilt in 1960.
